Meher Baba and Brisbane
When Meher Baba came to Australia for his second visit in June of 1958 he flew into Brisbane from Sydney after leaving the USA on what was to be his 6th round the world journey. He stayed overnight in Brisbane at the Bellevue Hotel (now the site of a casino) and then was driven up the coast to Kiel Mt. to what he would soon name Avatar's Abode. Three days later he returned for another night at the Bellevue Hotel (stopping on route in Beerburrum), then flew out of Brisbane, back to Sydney for an overnight stay in Meher House, and onto India (with a stopover in Darwin). This was to be his last time outside of India.
Over the years there have been various stages of Meher Baba groups and activities, probably one of the more notable was when in the mid 60's a large float was constructed and paraded as part of the Warana Festival. These days there are pockets of us in Brisbane, busy with our lives, work and family but Meher Baba remains at the inner center of our lives. We can update you on the various subgroups in Brisbane and if desirable, can try to help link you up according to your interests and location.
